Portuguese Parliament approves vote on Western Sahara

On 9 March 2018, a vote was presented by theBloco de Esquerda ( Left Bloc) for the relaunch of the negotiation process on Western Sahara, “under the aegis of the United Nations.”

The vote refers to the “deep conviction that this is a moment for a political solution” that guarantees the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara “and highlights the meeting on March 6 in Lisbon of the envoy of the Secretary- General of the UN with representatives of Morocco.

The vote was approved with the votes of the Left Bloc, Portuguese Communist Party, Ecological Party “The Greens”, PAN (People-Animals-Nature) and the Socialist Party. The PSD (Social Democratic Party) voted against and the CDS (Cristian Democrats) abstained.
