Mhamed Khadad denies a confederation with Morocco as a solution to the occupation of the Western Sahara.
The Polisario Front denies the rumors leaked by the Moroccan press and some Spanish media, which attributed to the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Mr. Horst Köhler, “an alleged road map consisting of a confederation with Morocco as a solution to the occupation of Western Sahara. ”
Diario La Realidad on thursday in talks with the head of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Polisario Front and coordinator with the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, Mr. Mhamed Khadad, clarified that the UN Personal Envoy has sent an official call for the parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as the observer parties in the conflict Algeria and Mauritania to attend a round of negotiations that will begin next October.
Khadad said that the Saharawi party has responded favorably to the invitation of Köhler while the representative of Morocco at the UN has not given any response, because “Morocco rejects any negotiation with the Polisario, in its attempt to boycott the efforts of the United Nations and hinder their search for a solution to the Sahrawi conflict. ” Khadad said.
The Saharawi diplomat explained that “It is true that there is a new dynamic in the dossier, a growing interest since last April with the line followed by the Security Council, which reduced the extension time of MINURSO from one year to six months, and everything indicates that it will be repeated. In less than two months the UN personnel envoy returned to the Security Council and made another presentation. ” Mhamed Khadad said that “this dynamic really does not please Morocco at all, it is afraid because its bet is to maintain the status quo in the Security Council, supported by France that did not let anything move about it”.
Khadad on the dynamics that is taking the process internationally said that “Yes there is interest and many options are considered and that is evident, but so far we have not received anything about it. Morocco has serious problems, it is coiled and has many open fronts. It is not finding good things in the United Nations like the status quo that France wanted. ” Regarding the support of other permanent member countries in the Security Council, Khadad pointed out that “Russia yesterday made a good statement that supports the negotiations; Morocco’s commitment to the African Union after its re-entry with which it aimed to dominate the situation and expel us has also been a failure. And at the level of the European Court, it is already evident despite the impulse that some politicians tried to impose on justice, but sooner or later they will have no choice but to accept the decision of the Court. “
