PUSL.- Through a formal request on June 26, the communist MP Hugo Gutiérrez, asked the commander-in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Julio Leiva, an inspection of the Liberian flag vessel Venture Pearl that would be close to navigating Chilean waters, and transports cargo of phosphate originating from Western Sahara .

According to local media the deputy stated that “I believe that one of the struggles that occur in the world that are most invisible is the struggle of the Saharawi people for their independence, to finish with years of years of colonization and the use that Morocco makes of its lands, including the usufruct of all its natural resources. ”

Panama had prohibited this merchant from entering through the Panama Canal respecting international law that prohibits the exploit of Natural Resources of Western Sahara by Morocco without consent of the Saharawi people.

After the decision, the ship was forced to enter through the Strait of Magellan with the illegal cargo.

According to MP Gutiérrez this would be the first time this ship tries to pass through Chilean waters.

The communist parliamentarian added that he requested the Chilean Navy to supervise the entry into jurisdictional waters of this vessel, who have not responded to the request. “I hope that it will control this merchant and the content of its cargo,” the deputy added.
