Brasilia, July 23, 2019.
We, the Brazilian Popular Movements, strongly express our utter condemnation of the brutal repression that the invasion authorities in the Western Sahara areas carried out against the people who peacefully expressed their joy over the victory of the Algerian soccer team at the African Nations Cup, on July 20th this year.
The shocking images of repression filled us with outrage, particularly the death of 24-year-old Saharawi Sabah Azman, intentionally hit by a Moroccan police car and the continuing detention campaign.
We denounce the continuing violations of human rights by the Moroccan invasion authorities, and demand that the United Nations definitively resolve this situation of injustice by conducting a self-determination referendum whereby the Saharawi people can freely express their opinion.
Freedom for all political prisoners.
