PUSL.- The Saharawi Delegation for Spain issued today, Monday, April 6, a statement in which, following the instructions of the Saharawi National Commission in charge of supervising the Holidays in Peace program, the decision to suspend this program in 2020 after evaluating the current circumstances derived from the COVID-19 pandemic.
After consulting with the different groups that participate in this program, the Commission has decided to adopt this measure, which, as expected, is still painful for thousands of Sahrawi and foster families who have welcomed the little Sahrawis every summer for over three decades in their homes.
In the communiqué, the importance of this program is highlighted as “it constitutes an added value to all the humanitarian contributions made by the solidarity movement with the Saharawi people and which has allowed them to resist and fight for more than forty-four years for freedom and dignity.”
Likewise, they send a message of solidarity with all the peoples of the world in their fight against the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and are aware that the solidarity movement with the Sahrawi people will spare no effort in seeking a varied alternative program that satisfies the diverse educational, cultural, sporting and recreational needs of these children for this summer and that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the thousands of Sahrawi girls and boys in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
SAHARAUI DELEGATION FOR SPAIN
Madrid, April 6, 2020
The Sahrawi Delegation for Spain warmly greets the solidarity movement with the Sahrawi people in Spain and transmits the following communication received by the Sahrawi National Commission in charge of supervising the Holidays in Peace program:
After evaluating the current circumstances that the world is going through, as a consequence of the evolution of events due to the rapid and wide spread of the Coronavirus pandemic COVID 19, and taking into account the consultations carried out with various partners, particularly the solidarity movement with the Saharawi cause.
Aware of the importance of the Holidays in Peace program, which constitutes added value to all the humanitarian contributions made by the movement of solidarity with the Sahrawi people and which has allowed them to resist and fight for more than forty-four years for freedom and dignity.
Holidays in Peace has contributed in an effective and palpable way to alleviate the suffering of thousands of Saharawi children, building a bridge that has become an unprecedented model in civic and peaceful coexistence among peoples. We arrived to the conclusion that:
THE CURRENT SITUATION URGES US TO MAKE THE VERY PAINFULDECISION TO SUSPEND THE HOLIDAY IN PEACE PROGRAM FOR THE SUMMER OF 2020, IN OUR JUDGMENT, IT IS THE BEST ACTION IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES THE WORLD IS IN THIS MOMENT.
Even so, we can assure you that today, the Saharawi people feel strong, cohesive, united and determined to achieve the noble objectives for which they have sacrificed so much and, at the same time, show their solidarity with all the peoples of the world in its fight against the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
The Polisano Front is aware of the political, moral and humanitarian commitment of the solidarity movement to maintain the continuity of this program and that it will spare no effort in seeking a varied alternative program that meets the diverse educational, cultural, sports and recreational needs of these children. for this summer and to help alleviate the suffering of the thousands of Sahrawi girls and boys in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
Waiting for this situation to be resolved as soon as possible and to be able to resume our common activities for the good of what unites us: solidarity with the Sahrawi people.
