PUSL.- The Geneva Support Group on the occasion of the recent appointment by the President of the UN General Assembly (Amb. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande – Nigeria) of Amb. Omar Hilale (Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN) as co-facilitator in the process of reforming the human rights treaty system sent an open Letter  to the President of the UN General Assembly the was also circulated to the Permanent Missions in Geneva and New York as well as to a number of officials of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees.

In the open letter, the Geneva Support Group for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights in Western Sahara, which is made up of more than 200 organizations worldwide, expresses its deep concern to see  that the United Nations  entrust the task of co-facilitator to a diplomat who has personally been widely accused of using corrupt and spying acts against UN personnel while serving as Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco in Geneva and the fact that Morocco remains a place where freedoms and rights fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly, are violated and, therefore, is among the countries with the worst human rights record in the world.
