PUSL.- According to a communiqué from the NGO CODAPSO (Committee for the Defense of the Right to Self-Determination of the People of Western Sahara) several young Saharawi started a protest sit-in in the city of Smara occupied Western Sahara in the “Al-Awda” neighborhood. The young Saharawi demand housing and job opportunities. A tent was setup and slogans were raised as well as a poster demanding the benefit from the resources of Western Sahara. The moroccan occupation police intervened today using various means of violence, which resulted in the arrest of Jatri Elkeihil and Aziz Elkeihil.

CODAPSO highlights that the Moroccan authorities continue to use all the means and methods to prevent the Saharawi of their right to peacefully demonstrate and demand their legitimate rights.

The Moroccan state continues to persevere in gross violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara against the Saharawi population who resists in a non violent way since the cease fire agreement in 1991 still awaiting the celebration of the referendum for self determination that has been continuously blocked by Morocco.
