PUSL.- According to information from the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA), the Saharawi political prisoners Khouna Babeit, Abdallah Toubali, Cheik Banga, prisoners in the Bouzakarn prison, have not called their families since February 25. Abdallah Abbahah in Tiflet 2 prison has not done so since February 26, according to his own family.
With this measure, a right included in different international conventions, also ratified by Morocco, is being denied, and even in breach of its own laws regarding the treatment that must be given to prisoners.
Since the return to hostilities, after the breaking of the cease-fire by Morocco on November 13, the harassment and siege against Saharawi human rights activists has increased, as has the already difficult situation of the Saharawi people.
All this occurs due to the inaction of international organizations with responsibility for monitoring the rights of prisoners such as the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, which until today has not been concerned about the situation of prisoners and has not visited them, and highlights the double standards of the European Union that has recently approved sanctions against China for the violation of human rights against the Uighur minority in Xinjiang while rewarding Morocco with trade agreements and economic aid.
