PUSL.- In the last 7 years, Morocco has received more than 15 billion euros from the EU in development aid. If only the item dedicated to migration is taken into account, Rabat is currently the second largest recipient of EU funds, behind Turkey.
Since 2016, the Kingdom of Morocco has benefited from €346 million of EU funds to strengthen its border controls and serve migrants, of which €200 million has already been paid.
Taking into account the latest events that have taken place on the Ceuta-Morocco border and the shameful and cruel use Morocco makes of emigration, filling the coasts of southern Spain and the Canaries with boats, whenever it wants to put pressure on Spain and in order to obtain support of the European Union, or at least not being accused of the illegal occupation of Western Sahara, make it clear that these funds are not used for the purposes for which they were granted.
The European Union must review its subsidy policy with the Kingdom of Morocco, demanding clarity and transparency in the use of these subsidies, while they must be subject to strict respect for human rights.
The European Union cannot continue to inject money into Morocco and ignore when it violates its own laws and international laws concerning the rights of the Saharawi population in occupied Western Sahara, as well as its own population and migrants who through the mafias that rely on the approval of the Moroccan authorities, try to reach Europe in search of a better future for themselves and their families.
