The Cuban Declaration at the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (Fourth Committee) on Decolonisation. New York on 10 October 2022, defends the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and rejects unilateral decisions which disrespect the interests or rights of the Saharawi people.
Declaration:
Cuba equally defends the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination on the basis of respect for the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions.
58 years ago, the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation declared Western Sahara a Non-Self-Governing Territory.
Cuba advocates a mutually acceptable political solution between the parties, providing for the exercise of self-determination by the people of Western Sahara, in accordance with UN Resolution 1514 (XV) on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples.
On the other hand, we do not favour unilateral decisions which disregard the interests or rights of the Saharawi people.
The Sahrawi people need the support of the international community and can always count on the solidarity of the Cuban people.
