PRETORIA (SOUTH AFRICA) – The President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, received, on Wednesday at the headquarters of his presidential residence in Pretoria, members of the South African movement of solidarity with the Saharawi people, reported a statement of the Saharawi Press Agency (SPS).
Reiterating his thanks to this solidarity movement for the efforts made in South Africa and at the continental level in general, Mr Ghali welcomed the movement that accompanies the Saharawi people in their legitimate struggle for freedom and independence.
During this audience granted on the second day of his state visit to South Africa, Mr Ghali called on African countries to mobilise more support and solidarity with the Saharawi people, affirming that the Saharawi people will continue their legitimate struggle, despite the difficulties they face and the alliances of the colonial powers, which will not affect the will of the Saharawis to continue the struggle to achieve independence, he continued.
After reviewing the latest developments in the Saharawi question, President Ghali recalled that the Saharawi people live in an unprecedented situation, due to Morocco’s intransigence and its violation of the ceasefire agreement of 13 November 2020, which led to the resumption of armed struggle by the Saharawis.
The Moroccan occupation “violates international law in Western Sahara and plunders its natural wealth, in defiance of international and regional decisions and resolutions (the European Court of Justice and the African Court)”, he stressed.
The South African Solidarity Movement expressed, on this occasion, its absolute and unconditional solidarity with the Saharawi people and its firm position on their just cause, affirming that it will continue to accompany this people in their struggle until victory and independence.
