For the immediate implementation of the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination!
In this international context, in which peace in Europe is in danger, we continue to call for peace in Western Sahara
The Portuguese government is constitutionally obliged to take a position condemning the illegal occupation of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco and to demand that the UN comply with its deliberations.
In this sense, the XIth Congress of the MDM, comes to demand
– The immediate fulfilment of the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination in observance of several resolutions of the United Nations;
– From the Portuguese government a clear position in favour of the fulfilment of the right of the Saharawi people, acting accordingly within the framework of the United Nations and the European Union;
– The urgent respect of the right of women, children and the Saharawi people to a dignified life;
– The end of the illegal occupation of the territories of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco;
– An end to the repression by the Moroccan authorities of the Saharawi population in the illegally occupied territories;
– The increase of humanitarian aid to the population in the refugee camps;
– Respect for the administration of Saharawi natural resources by the Polisario Front, its legitimate representative;
– The immediate release of Saharawi political prisoners held in Moroccan prisons.
– We also demand that the present United Nations Special Envoy, Stefan de Mistura, continues his efforts to put an end to the illegal occupation, by implementing the 1991 agreement which provides for a Referendum on the independence of the Sahara.
