VIENNA – APS.dz – Austrian parliamentarians called on the European Commission and the Council of Europe to respect the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which consider any economic or trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Morocco which includes Western Sahara to be null and void.

Meeting a Saharawi delegation, led by the Polisario Front representative in Europe and with the European Union, Oubi Bouchraya Bachir, the representatives of the Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Committees of the Austrian Parliament expressed their surprise at the “persistent disregard”, of the European Commission and the Council of Europe, of the successive judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union which consider any economic or commercial agreement between the European Union and Morocco, which includes Western Sahara, as null and void”, according to the Saharawi press agency SPS.

On this occasion, Oubi Bouchraya Bachir informed the Austrian parliamentarians of the latest developments in the Saharawi question, in particular the situation provoked by the violation by Morocco, on 13 November 2020, of the cease-fire agreement following the aggression of the occupying forces on peaceful Saharawis in the buffer zone of El-Guerguerat.

The Saharawi official referred to the inability of the Security Council to find a solution after the violation of the ceasefire agreement.

During the talks, the need for European parliaments, including the Austrian one, “to play an effective and influential role in the defence of human rights, peoples, legality and international law” was stressed, according to the same source.
