PUSL.- The systematic harassment and ill-treatment of the Saharawi Political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik Group continues on a daily basis. The 19 prisoners of the group are suffering daily reprisals.

In the prison Ait Melloul 2 (Agadir), the prison guards prevented Brahim Ismail, Mohamed Bani and Sidahmed Lemjeyid from leaving their cells. Each of these prisoners was victim of extreme torture and was sentenced to life imprisonment in an unfair trial that did not respect the basic rights of an accused.

Although the prison conditions for this group have always been harsh and punctuated by a gross violation of the basic rights of a prisoner, the situation got worse after their last trial in 2017. Added to that the decisions, as well as the urgent measures, that have been issued by the Committee against torture have not been respected so far by the Moroccan State.

The recent joint statement of Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International mentioned not only the reprisals but also the decisions of the CAT. (see HRW and AI statement on Gdeim Izik detainees).

In a public statement, on the 9th of November 2022 published by the Moroccan Media, the DGAPR (Moroccan General Delegation for Prison Administration and Rehabilitation) denied all facts presented by HRW and AI.

After each public statement that is related to the Gdeim Izik Group by International NGO’s the Moroccan State reacts by enhancing the ill treatment, in fact by doing so it confirms the reports that are published.

Most of the political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik Group are in prolonged solitary confinement for years now, a clear violation, of the most basic human rights.
