Esta entrada también está disponible en: Español (Spanish) Português (Portuguese (Portugal)) Deutsch (German)
Comic reading with Khadja and Fine on Wednesday, 17.05.23. Input and exchange in German spoken language.
weserterrassen.com.- Western Sahara does not refer to a desert region – it refers to a disputed area on the west coast of Africa that has been illegally claimed and occupied by Morocco for almost 50 years in violation of international law. At that time, many people who call themselves Sahrawis had to flee and have not been able to return against their will ever since. Sahrawis on the ground and in the diaspora have been fighting for the independence of Western Sahara ever since. Today, it is a place of political lack of freedom, where activists are subjected to repression and natural resources are exploited by German, European and international actors. Only a few people in Germany are aware of all this. We want to change that! That’s why we will use comic images and photos to shed light on the background of the Western Sahara conflict and report on our experiences in the refugee camps. Afterwards, we want to discuss the topic and answer all your questions to the best of our knowledge.
With: Khadja and Fine
Khadja was born in the Sahrawi refugee camps and lives in Germany. She is committed to the independence of Western Sahara and has been working for a long time to raise awareness of the issue in Germany.
Fine (Educat Kollektiv: https://www.educat-kollektiv.org/) spent one month each in 2014 and 2022 as a guest in Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria. She is working on a comic about the political and historical background of the conflict and her personal experiences on the ground. Pictures from the comic will be shown at the event.
