CAHAHID EL HAFED, 23 July 2023 (SPS). The Ministry of Affairs of the Occupied Areas and the Saharawi Diaspora has expressed its strongest condemnation to Morocco over the attempted assassination of the human rights activist and media activist, “Rashid Al-Sagheir” by Moroccan settlers near his home in the occupied city of Dakhla.
In a statement issued following the brutal attack by Moroccan settlers and security forces that threatened his life, the Ministry stressed that this crime and the war crimes and crimes against humanity constitute, in their entirety, crimes of genocide committed against Saharawi civilians under occupation of the territory targeting all those who claim the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.
The Ministry also denounces all practices and crimes committed against the Saharawi civilian population, whether committed by civilian and military bodies or by a group of Moroccan settlers.
The Ministry of Affairs of the Occupied Areas and the Saharawi Diaspora has expressed its solidarity with the Saharawi fighter, “Rashid Al-Sagheir” and with all Saharawi activists who are being persecuted and repressed by the various Moroccan occupation apparatuses.
Morocco represses in the occupied towns of Western Sahara in full view of the UN mission in Western Sahara and in open violation of the precepts and rulings of international bodies and organisations.
Since the violation of the ceasefire by Morocco and the return of the war, Morocco has unleashed an unprecedented repression against the Saharawi population, in addition to the repression it had been suffering before, through arbitrary arrests, torture, imprisonment and even forced disappearances, as denounced by international human rights organisations.
