We, the family of Sidi Abdallah Abbahah, saharawi political prisoner of the Gdeim Izik group, currently detained in Tilftet 2 prison in Morocco, more than 1200 kilometers from his hometown, El-Aaiun, Western Sahara, inform that he began 1 October 2018, an unlimited hunger strike
Sidi Abdallah Abbahah was arrested in 2010 following the dismantling of Gdeim Izik and despite lack of evidence, the Rabat Court of Appeal sentenced him to life in 2017 in a trial marked by numerous and serious violations of the basis of a fair trial.
Abdallah suffers daily harassment and ill-treatment, and is in prolonged confinement since his transfer to Tiflet2, a victim of psychological torture, “raids” almost daily and even with physical assault.
Due to the inhuman and degrading conditions of his detention situation and the deterioration of his health, and after many complaints to the Moroccan authorities and the CNDH (National Human Rights Council of Morocco), by Abdallah, his family and his lawyer, who remain without response, Sidi Abdallah Abbahah has decided to start a hunger strike to:
1 – Demand his transfer to Western Sahara to be nearer to his family
2. That Morocco respects the agreements signed and international law which prohibit ill-treatment
We appeal to the international community to support Sidi Abdallah Abbaha in his fair demands and we make the Moroccan authorities responsible for his physical integrity.
