Guterres urges UN Security Council to extend mandate of MINURSO

PUSL.- The UN Secretary-General today asked the Security Council to extend for a year the mandate of MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum of Western Sahara) to support the reinitiation of the political negotiations scheduled for December between Morocco and the Polisario Front.

“I recommend that the Council extends the mandate for a year, until 31 October 2019, to give my emissary the space and time necessary to create the conditions for the political process to advance,” wrote Guterres in a document obtained by French news agency AFP.

“I urge the parties and the neighbors to come to the negotiating table in good faith and without preconditions,” on December 5 and 6 in Switzerland. Read more

Portuguese MEP of PCP questions Morgherini about Saharawi political prisoner in Hungerstrike

PUSL.- Miguel Viegas, MEP of the Portugues Communist Party presented a written question concerning the Gdeim Izik prisoners currently detained in Tiflet2 prison.

Mr. El Bachr Khadda is in Hungerstrike for 16 days (since 18th September) and Mr. Sidi Abdallah Abbahah started a hunger strike two days ago. The Portuguese MEP is particularly worried about the detention conditions and the prolonged confinement these prisoners endure for several months since their transfer to Tiflet2 prison as well as the violence of the guards and the prison administration against these prisoners.

El Bachir Khadda, Mohamed Lamin Haddi, and Sidi Abdallah Abbahah are the three Saharawi political prisoners of the group Gdeim Izik who are in Tiflet2 prison the remaining 16 prisoners are in Kenitra, El Arjat, Ait Melloul, and Bouzakarn. Tiflet2 is the prison that is farther away from El Aaiun, over 1300km. Read more
