Family prevented from visiting Saharawi political prisoner Sidahmed Lemjeyid

PUSL.- According to information received from the family, the prison administration prevented several times the visit to Sidahmed Lemjeyid, Saharawi political prisoner, currently currently detained in the local prison of Ait Melloul 2.

The local prison administration of Ait Melloul, on the outskirts of the city of Agadir, south of Morocco, denied last Monday 7th January 2019, the right to family visit of the Saharawi political prisoner of the Gdeim Izik Group.

The prison administration denied the right of visitation three times in the las months on December 24th, January 2nd and January 7th, in violation of the Moroccan law regarding prisoners rights.

The prison administration did not give any justification for their arbitrary denial of the visit from the family.

Mr. Lemjeyid family protested for several hours in front of the prison but did not receive any explanation. Read more

Reduction of food rations for Sahrawi refugees The United Nations World Food Program is forced to reduce food rations for Sahrawi refugees living in Algeria

The lack of funds available from the World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations has as consequence that Sahrawi refugees living in the camps in Algeria receive reduced rations of food that do not meet the minimum daily needs.

WFP has had to distribute less food as a last resort in order to extend food assistance to refugees over time. The problem is that the hundreds of thousands of Sahrawis living in the Algerian camps have already received limited rations for decades that the cuts in the WFP budget have caused them to be further reduced to the point where the risk of malnutrition and anemia will increase dangerously.
