Family prevented from visiting Saharawi political prisoner Sidahmed Lemjeyid
PUSL.- According to information received from the family, the prison administration prevented several times the visit to Sidahmed Lemjeyid, Saharawi political prisoner, currently currently detained in the local prison of Ait Melloul 2.
The local prison administration of Ait Melloul, on the outskirts of the city of Agadir, south of Morocco, denied last Monday 7th January 2019, the right to family visit of the Saharawi political prisoner of the Gdeim Izik Group.
The prison administration denied the right of visitation three times in the las months on December 24th, January 2nd and January 7th, in violation of the Moroccan law regarding prisoners rights.
The prison administration did not give any justification for their arbitrary denial of the visit from the family.
Mr. Lemjeyid family protested for several hours in front of the prison but did not receive any explanation.
The prison of Ait Melloul is several hundreds of km’s from El Aaiun, Western Sahara and the travel expenses and time are a huge effort for the families of the political prisoners (see report here).
Lemjeyid is the President of CSPRON, the Committee for the Protection of Natural Resources in Western Sahara – an organisation that reports on the plundering of Western Sahara’s abundant natural resources by Morocco and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the process of the Gdeim Izik Group (see report here).
