Demonstrations in front of the Moroccan Consulate and Embassy in Spain and France
PUSL.- On 25 July 2019 Saharawi friendship organizations and representatives in Bilbao (Spain) and France held a demonstration in front of the Moroccan Consulate and the Moroccan Embassy.
The protests took place following recent events in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. Moroccan occupation forces attacked the defenseless population for several days, resulting in a confirmed death, hundreds of arrests, including minors and children, beatings, kidnappings and raids house-to-house, use of water cannon, firearms with live ammunition and rubber bullets and tear gas.
Protesters demanded an end to occupation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and the release of Saharawi political prisoners and condemned and rejected the wave of repression by the Moroccan regime against the civilian population. They called on the international community to intervene immediately to protect the Saharawi population.
In Bilbao with the slogan “Guilty Morocco, Responsible Spain”, a clear message was sent to the Spanish state – its political, legal and moral responsibility latent in Western Sahara and in the face of constant human rights violations in the territory.
In Paris the protesters, who began a march from Trocadero Square to the Moroccan embassy, sent a message to the UN Security Council asking them to take action and extend the mandate of the United Nations Referendum Mission in Western Sahara ( MINURSO) to protect the human rights of the Saharawi people.
They also called on the French government, a permanent member of the Security Council, to stop supporting Morocco and to enforce the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. “France must support UN resolutions and the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence,” the protesters demanded.
