PUSL.- Although the session will take place at a time when the world is facing the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the Security Council would take concrete steps to change the status quo and revive the stalled peace process in Western Sahara.
We also hope the Security Council will send a strong message to Morocco, the occupying power, to end its illegal and destabilising actions in the Sahrawi occupied Territories.
What our people expect from the United Nations and from the Security Council in particular is actions, not words, actions that would enable them to exercise freely and democratically their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The upcoming meeting of the Security Council is therefore another opportunity for the Council to go beyond ‘business as usual’ and to demonstrate its resolve to put an end to the decades-long conflict in Western Sahara and with it the suffering of our people.
