Diario La Realidad Saharaui/DLRS .- New York (USA), June 30, 2020, the Saharawi agency (SPS) in its information office today, Wednesday, July 1, published that: – The representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, has addressed the Security Council to record the latest operation carried out by units of the Saharawi army in the liberated territories of the Saharawi Republic and the seizure of almost 4 tons of cannabis resin from Morocco. Four Moroccan drug traffickers as well as assault rifles, ammunition, and off-road vehicles have also been detained in the operation.
The Saharawi army has burned 3775 kilograms of cannabis resin in the Agüenit region, a town in the liberated territory of Western Sahara.
Members of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) have also been present in the burning, as reported by the Saharawi representative in the letter sent to the members of the Un Security Council through the French ambassador.
“Peace and security in our region is increasingly threatened by the close links between drug trafficking and groups of terrorist organizations, which have seen cannabis resin and other drugs from Morocco as an important source of financing for their terrorist operations. in the Sahel-Sahara region and beyond ”, the Polisario Front has warned.
For the Polisario Front, the UN must demand explanations from Morocco to clarify “how it zis possible that drug traffickers can pass without control through occupied Western Sahara, which is completely surrounded by one of the most militarized walls in the world, guarded by millions of antipersonnel mines, sophisticated radars and surveillance systems ”.
Warning the international community about the growing flow of drug trafficking and organized crime gangs in the region, the Polisario Front “once again calls on the Security Council to hold Morocco accountable for its well-documented role in drug trafficking and other actions that destabilize and threaten the security and stability of their neighbors and the entire region. ”
In closing, the Polisario Front representative has drawn on international reports, including the 2020 U.S. Department of State’s International Narcotics Control Strategy Report and the 2020 United Nations Office on World Drug Report Drugs and Crime, in which the Kingdom of Morocco is evidenced and reaffirmed as the first producer and distributor of cannabis in the world
