Your Excellencies United Nations Security Council Members
Your Excellency Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
Your Excellency. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations
IIn the face of the serious breach of ceasefire committed this morning, November 13, 2020 by the Kingdom of Morocco armed forces who crossed the military separation wall near the Guergarat breach to bypass and surround the area and involving a group of plainclothes bandits in the attack on Saharawi civilians who were protesting peacefully against the illegal breach, PUSL expresses its total condemnation of the acts committed by the Moroccan army. This Moroccan military action was carried out under the watchful eye of MINURSO whose mandate includes maintaining the ceasefire.
We are particularly concerned about the situation in the occupied territories where the Moroccan occupation authorities have reinforced their presence in all cities and in particular in the neighborhoods where the greatest number of Saharawis reside.
Saharawi political prisoners are now in an even greater risk and there is an urgent need for Morocco to comply with the urgent measures, decisions and opinions issued by the various human rights mechanisms of the United Nations.
In this context we appeal to your Excellencies to;
– Take all necessary measures so that the Moroccan army no longer crosses the buffer zone and ceases all hostilities;
– Take the necessary measures to close the illegal breach:
– Take all necessary measures to protect the Saharawi population in the occupied territories;
– Take all necessary measures to protect Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails and in particular the group of prisoners known as Gdeim Izik;
– Implement as soon as possible the realization of the self-determination referendum accepted by both parties (Morocco and Polisario Front) in 1991 and which is the basis of the ceasefire agreement giving the Saharawi people the possibility to exercise their legitimate right to freedom, dignity and sovereignty.
With the highest consideration,
PUSL Board
