Portuguese organizations demand an immediate end to Morocco’s military aggression in Western Sahara

Immediate end of Morocco’s military aggression

For the self-determination of the Saharawi people

The undersigned Portuguese organizations express their vehement rejection of the military aggression of the Kingdom of Morocco against Western Sahara, which began in the early hours of today, 13 November.

This aggression and the accumulation of military forces along the border with Mauritania, in the Guerguerat area, constitute a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement in force between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front, under the auspices of the UN, since 1991, and an attack on international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Subscribing organizations appeal to everyone’s solidarity based on the requirement:

-the immediate end of the aggression of the Kingdom of Morocco and the withdrawal of its military forces from the region;

– the end of the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara;

-the installation of a permanent UN mechanism to monitor respect for the human rights of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories;

– the release of Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons;

– respect for the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination;

Reaffirming their solidarity with the just struggle of the Saharawi people, the undersigned organizations also consider that the Portuguese Government is obliged to take a clear stand against the Kingdom of Morocco’s aggression against the Saharawi people, recognizing and promoting the recognition of the right to self-determination the Saharawi people and the Democratic Saharawi Arab Republic, demanding compliance with UN deliberations on Western Sahara.
