The PCP (Portuguese Communist Party) strongly condemns the support of the United States Administration to the occupation of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco, in return for it to normalize relations with Israel, which for decades has illegally occupied Palestinian territories and oppresses the Palestinian people.
The unacceptable recognition of the occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, now declared by the Trump Administration, is part of the US policy of systematic affront to the sovereignty and rights of peoples and, consequently, to international law.
In the same way that it disrespects the national rights of the Saharawi people, the American Administration also disrespects the national rights of the Palestinian people, namely the creation of a free, sovereign and independent state, with the 1967 borders and capital in East Jerusalem, and the right of return for Palestinian refugees.
The PCP urges the Portuguese Government to condemn the decision now adopted by the USA, which openly attacks the rights of the Saharawi people and disrespects the principles of the UN Charter, International Law and numerous United Nations Resolutions that recognize and enshrine them.
The PCP reaffirms the demand for the Saharawi people to fulfill their right to self-determination and calls for solidarity with the Polisario Front’s persistent struggle against occupation and for the just national cause of its people.
