PUSL.- The Caravan of Solidarity with Saharawi Refugees is one of the projects promoted by the Asociación Solidariedade Galega with Pobo Saharaui, Sogaps, in its continuous work in support of the Saharawi People.
The convoy of trucks that today left for the Saharawi refugee camps, loaded with food, hygiene products, clothing, footwear, blankets, medicines, computer equipment, school and sports supplies, was presented yesterday at a ceremony held in Ponteareas (Pontevedra) and it had a great institutional representation that supported this initiative of the Galician NGO Sogaps.
In addition to the presence of several members of Sogaps, including its president Maite Isla, the event was attended by the Saharawi delegate in Galicia, Mohamed Zerga, the mayors of Gondomar, Paco Ferreira, and Nigran, Juan González, the president of Galicia Cooperation Fund, the president of the Intergroup Peace and Solidarity with the Sahara and deputy of the PP, Alberto Pazos, the territorial secretary of the Xunta in Pontevedra, Marta Iglesias, as well as the deputies Isaura Abelairas and Carmela González together with the Counselor for Benestar from Ponteareas, Verónica Carrera.
At the event, the importance of this project was highlighted after the ‘Holidays in Peace’ program was suspended due to the health pandemic and the closure of borders. The Project that joins others promoted by Sogaps such as the recent opening of a medical center for early detection of breast cancer in the Saharawi population.
