BIR LAHLOU (liberated territories) APS.dz.- The Saharawi National Commission for Human Rights (CNSDH) has warned about the escalation of the vengeful practices of the Moroccan occupier against the Saharawi prisoners incarcerated in their prisons, as well as their crimes against defenseless Saharawi civilians within the occupied part of the Saharawi Republic, especially after the resumption of the war.

In a statement released on Wednesday and quoted by the Saharawi press agency SPS, the CNSDH said that it was following with great concern the situation of Saharawi political prisoners, especially those of the Gdeim Izik group, following the odious and vindictive practices of the Moroccan prison administration, also calling for the lifting of the blockade imposed on the family of Sultana Khaya.

Faced with the worsening of the retaliatory measures undertaken by the Moroccan occupation authorities against Saharawi political prisoners, the CNSDH appealed to the International Red Cross (IRC) to assume its responsibilities and visit the region to investigate the violations by Morocco of the Geneva Conventions concerning to civilians in conflict and war zones.

The Commission cited the case of the Saharawi political prisoner Mohamed Bourial, on an open hunger strike since 1 March, to denounce the conditions of detention and the repressive practices of the local prison administration of Ait Melloul 1.

His health deteriorated after more than a week of open strike. The penitentiary director and the social supervisor take actions to pressure him to abandon the open hunger strike and renounce his claims, including the right to be transferred to his family’s place of residence, and to benefit permanently from telephone communication, humane treatment, respect for his dignity and an end to all forms of racial discrimination against him.

The Saharawi Commission also noted the suffering of the political prisoner of the Gdeim Izik Group, Mohamed Lamine Haddi, who lives in a deplorable situation, due to medical negligence, his deprivation of all contact and care, in addition to the punitive practices of the Penitentiary Administration.

The Saharawi Human Rights Commission also asks that the Moroccan occupation authorities’ blockade on the house of Sidi Ibrahim Khaya’s family in the city of Bojador be lifted and that all degrading and criminal acts directed against the family be stopped.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons and for a visit to the occupied territories to find out what Saharawi civilians are suffering in the occupied part of the territory of the Saharawi Republic as war crimes and crimes against humanity after the resumption of war.
