The corruption of MEPs by the Makhzen aims to buy their silence on the Saharawi issue

WASHINGTON – APS.dz – The former Moroccan army officer, Mustapha Adib, said that the Makhzen regime’s recourse to bribing MEPs with the money it earns from the hashish trade aims to push the “old continent” to support its illegal occupation of Western Sahara and to buy its silence on the grave human rights situation in the Kingdom and in the occupied Saharawi territories.

In an article published on his Facebook page, Mustapha Adib also indicated that ‘the bribes and other gifts and privileges that the Makhzen grants to European parliamentarians are also intended to encourage European Union (EU) countries to buy more of the products resulting from the plundering of the occupied Saharawi territories, including vegetables and fish, sold at low prices.

Affirming, in this sense, that ‘the ultimate objective of Morocco, through these practices, is to get Europeans to blindly buy Saharawi products without trying to know their origin’, the former officer stressed that ‘the Makhzen regime is ready, to achieve its objective, to sell a kilo of sardines at less than 50 cents, even if it means depriving Moroccans of this product’.

In the same vein, Mr. Adib pointed out that ‘the Makhzen’s recourse to bribing MEPs is also aimed at buying Europe’s silence on the ongoing violations of human rights in Morocco and in the occupied Saharawi territories, but also with regard to (the delays in) the organisation of the referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara, as called for by UN resolutions and international law.

The officer also mentioned the arrest of French and Dutch policemen who were working for the Makhzen in Europe, without the European Parliament making much mention of it.

M. Adib said that the money spent by the Makhzen to corrupt MEPs ‘does not necessarily come from the public treasury, but often from the hashish trade, recalling that he had already indicated that Moroccan army generals Hosni bin Slimane and Haramou, as well as other drug barons, had a lot of information on illegal operations carried out by Morocco, mentioning the deposit of ‘money intended for mafia and criminal operations carried out abroad in black boxes’.

Finally, urging Western countries to stop their hypocrisy and instead assume their responsibilities, Adib noted that “Moroccans now need support to lead their revolt, in order to get rid of a medieval and outdated regime.
