Nicaragua renews its firm support for the struggle for independence of the Saharawi people

Nicaragua reafirmó una vez más su firme y franco apoyo al pueblo saharaui

DAJLA (Saharawi refugee camps) – APS.dz – Nicaragua once again reaffirmed its firm and frank support for the Saharawi people in their legitimate struggle against the Moroccan occupier, to establish their independent state.

Speaking at the 16th Congress of the Polisario Front in the wilaya of Dakhla, in the Saharawi refugee camps, Cadiel Arce, envoy of the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, said he “carried a strong message of support and solidarity with the Saharawi people in their legitimate struggle against the occupier, with a view to establishing their independent state”.

“I am also here to convey the greetings of the Vice-President of Nicaragua to the Saharawi women, in recognition of their sacrifices and struggle”, he added.

Mr Arce also called on the Saharawis to “be inspired and follow in the footsteps of the peoples who were able to win their independence through armed struggle”, stating that he had “a special admiration for the struggle and resistance shown so far by the Saharawi people”.

Pointing out, in the same vein, that the Saharawi people did not choose the armed struggle, but that it was imposed on them by the Moroccan occupier, the envoy of the Nicaraguan president said he was “convinced that the Saharawi people will end up triumphing, like the peoples of Latin America who defeated the coloniser”.

Affirming, in this respect, that the Saharawi people can count on the unwavering support of Nicaragua to realise their dream, namely the establishment of their independent state, Cadiel Arce deplored the passivity of the international community in the face of Morocco’s violations and actions in the occupied Saharawi territories.

“The return of the Saharawis to armed struggle is, unfortunately, the consequence of so many years of waiting for nothing and of the passivity of the international community in the face of Morocco’s violations and excesses in the occupied Saharawi territories”, he affirmed.

After his participation in the Congress, Mr Arce was received by the SG of the Polisario Front and President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali.

Mr Ghali and Mr Arce exchanged views on the struggle of the Saharawi people and solidarity with their cause, on the occasion of the celebration in Dakhla of the 16th Congress of the organisation.
