The Outeiro do Circo project collaborates, with the Centre of African Studies of the University of Oporto, in an action of heritage education in Western Sahara.
In the context of the participation of the Centre of African Studies of the University of Oporto (CEAUP) in the conference “Heritage and History of Western Sahara”, which will take place on 25 and 26 February next at the University of Tifariti in the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, the CEAUP will start a line of work to raise awareness of heritage in the educational field directed at Saharawi primary school pupils in the Saharawi refugee camps near Tindouf.
The aim of the pilot project is not only “to make children aware of the richness of their archaeological heritage but also to establish an exchange of information between Saharawi and Portuguese children”.
The Outeiro do Circo project team will “provide support in the design and development of activities and the creation of educational resources linked to the local archaeological heritage”.
