Buenos Aires, March 25, 2023 (SPS) – The III World Forum on Human Rights that ended last Thursday denounced the violation of the human rights of the Saharawi people and the invasion and military aggression of the Kingdom of Morocco in flagrant violation of international law.
In a statement, the III World Forum on Human Rights held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 20 to 24 March 2023, said that Morocco, “the authoritarian monarchic regime has maintained a systemic policy of serious violations of collective and individual human rights of the Saharawi people”, facts that have been denounced before the UN SC and the Decolonization Committee of the General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Council. “Morocco is a country where human rights are least respected.
The world’s largest gathering of human rights activists (III WHRF) has also denounced the plundering and pillaging of Western Sahara’s natural resources and heritage by the invading power, Morocco, in violation of international law.
In this regard, the Forum regretted that Morocco continues and maintains an open contempt for the resolutions of the UN, the AU and the EU, international bodies that have reiterated in successive calls to complete the process of decolonisation of the last colony in Africa and to allow the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right to freedom and independence.
It also demands the dismantling of the Moroccan military wall that divides the Saharawi people.
Finally, it calls on “the international community, social movements, human rights organisations and personalities participating in the Forum to place at the centre of their concerns the restoration of the international right of peoples to self-determination and sovereignty, such as the Saharawi people suffering from the systemic violation of their human rights under the illegal Moroccan occupation”.
