Nairobi, 4 September 2023 (SPS) – Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Sidati, said on Monday in Nairobi, on the sidelines of the African Climate Summit, that the Sahrawi people “will never accept to submit to Moroccan occupation, nor to climate change” resulting from its practices of plundering the Sahrawi people’s wealth.
During his participation in the ministerial meeting devoted to the debate on climate change, Mr. Sidati presented a series of contributions to examine ways and means of dealing with climate change in Africa, reviewing the situation of the Sahrawi Republic in this “exceptional conjuncture” resulting from the direct confrontation with the Moroccan occupier, following the latter’s violation of the ceasefire agreement on November 13, 2020.
Speaking at the meeting, the minister affirmed that the Sahrawi people will not accept submission to the Moroccan occupation or to the climate changes resulting from its practices of plundering the wealth of the Sahrawis.
The participants in the meeting renewed their support for the just Sahrawi cause and the efforts made by the Sahrawi Republic in confronting climate change.
According to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, the aim of the African Climate Summit, which opened earlier today in the Kenyan capital (Nairobi), is to establish the continent “as an emerging force” in the field of renewable energies, and to call for international financial aid to take advantage of the resources and skills it possesses.
The Sahrawi President and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, arrived in Nairobi on Sunday evening to take part in the African Climate Summit, at the invitation of the President of Kenya and Chairman of the African Heads of State and Government Committee on Climate Change, William Ruto.
