ZANZIBAR (Tanzania) – APS.dz.- The widening scope of conflicts in Africa constitutes an obstacle to the achievement of the objectives of the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063, in particular those linked to continental connectivity in the fields of transport, energy and infrastructure, according to the Saharawi Minister of Water and Environment, Mr. Ada Brahim Ahmim.
The Saharawi minister declared, according to the Saharawi press agency SPS, before the fourth ordinary session of the AU Committee of Ministers in charge of transport, energy and infrastructure sectors, which took place on the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar that: “The realisation of the African dream in terms of infrastructure development and implementation plans in the transport and energy sectors will face major challenges related to peace and security on the continent, given the spread of wars and conflicts in some regions of Africa”.
Ada Ahmim stressed that “overcoming these challenges will make it possible to achieve the sustainable development pursued by the African Union within the framework of the objectives of Agenda 2063, especially in the light of the current international developments casting a shadow over the African continent”.
At the same time, the minister affirmed the full support of the government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) for the implementation of the “promising” content of the “Zanzibar Declaration” and its aspiration in the future to contribute effectively to the implementation of the AU’s plans relating to the areas of work of the Continental Commission in charge of infrastructure, energy and transport issues.
He also praised the great efforts made by the AU partners, especially in terms of technical support and contribution to the implementation of the continent’s development plans.
The Saharawi official pointed out, finally, that “the Saharawi Republic is counting a lot on the technical support of the African Union and its partners to benefit from it”, while insisting on “the representation and presence of all the countries of the continental organisation in the elaboration and implementation of any African plan”.
