New York (United States), September 20, 2023 (SPS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Lemogang Kwape, reaffirmed his country’s principled and firm position on the Sahrawi issue, expressing Botswana’s support for the legitimate right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and freedom, as well as its permanent standing with the Sahrawi Republic.
This came during the meeting between Mr. Mohammed Sidati, Member of the National Secretariat and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Lemogang Kwape, on the sidelines of the seventy-eighth regular session of the United Nations General Assembly, which began on Tuesday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, the Sahrawi minister briefed his Botswana counterpart on the latest developments in the national issue and exchanged views with him on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and other issues of common interest.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs is accompanied during the work of the United Nations General Assembly session by Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat, representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, Mr. Brahim Mokhtar Boudjemaa, Ambassador in charge of Asia, and Mr. Malainin Salama, advisor to the Polisario Front’s representation at the United Nations.
