New York (United States), September 20, 2023 (SPS) – The Cuban President, Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel, affirmed his country’s firm support for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence during his intervention in the work of the 78th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted Cuba’s deep commitment to the basic principles of self-determination and justice for all peoples, expressing in the same context his position in support of the Sahrawi people, who have been struggling since 1975 to achieve their national independence and self-determination.
In his speech, the Cuban President called for an end to the Moroccan occupation of parts of the territory of the Sahrawi Republic, stressing the importance of respecting the relevant United Nations General Assembly resolutions that support the promotion and protection of human rights as a common sublime principle, which requires a spirit of respect and constructive dialogue between countries.
President Díaz-Canel highlighted the solidity of Cuba’s position in defending values that promote equality, justice, and the self-determination of peoples.
