On Saturday 2 December 2023, the Moroccan occupation forces in the town of El Aaiun (occupied territories of Western Sahara) brutally attacked the Saharawi artist Haddi Malainin and his musical group while they were performing at a wedding of a Saharawi family.
According to Haddi’s testimony, Moroccan policemen Mohsin Sargini, known as the American, Younes Fadel, known as the “son of Tuhima”, Ahmed Kaya and Adnan took part in the attack.
The artist was exposed to strong blows that caused him several injuries. The occupying authorities confiscated all the group’s musical instruments.
According to information from CODAPSO this aggression is due to the fact that Haddi and his group play revolutionary songs in favour of the independence of the Saharawi people and songs that are part of Saharawi culture, which makes this aggression a direct violation and discrimination against the culture of the Saharawi people.
