NGO denounces the death of Mauritanian civilians in attacks by the Moroccan army in the Sahara

Observatorio de Derechos Humanos denuncia aumento de muertos civiles mauritanos en bombardeos atribuidos al Ejército marroquí en el Sáhara

Nuakchot, 7 jan (infobae.com).- The Mauritanian association National Observatory for Human Rights denounced “the increase” in the number of Mauritanian civilian deaths in several bombings it attributed to the Moroccan army in Western Sahara.

In a statement, the association criticises “the indifference of the Mauritanian authorities and competent parties to this phenomenon” and denounces the silence of the National Human Rights Commission.

The association also condemns the words of the Mauritanian government spokesman who pointed out that the dead citizens were outside the country’s border, while blaming the Moroccan state for “the attacks perpetrated against unarmed Mauritanians on the southern borders” and stresses that these attacks caused dozens of deaths among miners and herdsmen.

At the same time, the association calls for “a fair and transparent investigation with the contribution of the UN mission in Western Sahara to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice”.

Ten Mauritanians (including four miners and two herdsmen) were killed in the last two drone attacks in the Saharawi territory near the Mauritanian border. These attacks were attributed to the Moroccan army.
