In the framework of the II International Trade Union Forum in Solidarity with the Saharawi People, PorUnSaharaLibre wants to express its strong support to the UGTSARIO, highlighting the fundamental role of this organisation in the defence of labour rights and social justice in Western Sahara, highlighting the work of Saharawi journalists and the Union of Saharawi Journalists and Writers (UPES) in making the Saharawi cause visible at international level, reaffirming the commitment to continue fighting for self-determination and freedom.
Greetings to the II International Trade Union Forum in Solidarity with the Saharawi People:
Dear comrades of the UGTSARIO,
It is an immense honour to address you in the framework of this 2nd International Trade Union Forum in Solidarity with the Saharawi People, on behalf of the entire team that makes up the information website PorUnSaharaLibre.
I would like to take this opportunity to convey to you not only our unconditional support, but also our deepest respect and admiration for the immense work you do day after day in favour of Saharawi workers’ rights and social justice in Western Sahara.
The UGTSARIO has proven to be a beacon of hope and an exemplary organisation, which not only fights for the labour rights of its people, but does so with an unwavering commitment to the principles of solidarity, equity and self-determination. In a context of occupation and repression, their tireless efforts to protect the interests of the Saharawi working class have been instrumental in keeping alive the hope for a more just future. Their actions and leadership inspire all of us who share in the struggle for such a just cause.
It is important to underline that UGTSARIO’s work transcends the trade union sphere, as its struggle is also the struggle for dignity and fundamental human rights for a people who have witnessed so many injustices. In the midst of an international scene that is often indifferent or ill-informed about the reality of Western Sahara, you have been a strong voice denouncing human rights violations and resisting oppression. The UGTSARIO has met these challenges with a determination that can only be described as exemplary, and has been a pillar in the defence of the most basic values of humanity and solidarity.
At a historic moment such as the one we are going through, the need to disseminate truthful and objective information about the situation in Western Sahara has become more crucial than ever, we do not want to fail to remember the Saharawi journalists, often working in extremely difficult conditions, who have become the eyes and ears of our people. Through their commitment, they are able to expose to the world the reality experienced by our compatriots in the occupied territories, and their work reminds us that no struggle is possible without truth and justice. Their courage in denouncing the constant violations of human rights is an act that deserves the greatest recognition.
In this regard, we cannot fail to highlight the role of the Union of Sahrawi Journalists and Writers (UPES), which has been instrumental in making the Sahrawi cause visible at the international level. Their dedication to ensuring that the voice of the Sahrawi people is heard in every corner of the world has been essential in combating the narrative of silence and oblivion that so many try to impose.
From PorUnSaharaLibre, we are deeply proud to be able to collaborate with you and contribute to the dissemination of your denunciations, to the visibility of your struggle and to the strengthening of solidarity networks that, we are sure, will be key to achieving real change. We know that the road to self-determination for the Sahrawi people is long and full of obstacles, but we also know that, with organisations like the UGTSARIO at the forefront, truth will prevail and justice will be achieved.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to UGTSARIO for its steadfast leadership, for its tireless struggle and for its constant commitment to building a better future for the Saharawi people. Your work is not only an example for your people, but also for all of us around the world who fight for justice, freedom and human rights.
Let us continue to walk together towards freedom.
