A 19-year-old British citizen living in Copenhagen who is a registered gang member will be arraigned in the case of arson on the night of 13 January at Wesselsgade 2 in Nørrebro, where the organisation Global Aktion is based.
The arrested man is charged with setting fire to the building using flammable liquids, thereby exposing the building’s residents to imminent danger. He is charged under section 180 of the Criminal Code, which is the serious arson offence.
He is also charged with being in possession of a hand grenade that was found in front of the building. The hand grenade was not detonated.
“The investigation has led us in the direction of the 19-year-old man, who is a registered gang member. We are still working with several hypotheses and it is therefore too early to conclude anything about the motive for the fire,” says Deputy Police Inspector Brian Belling.
The arraignment will take place in the Magistrate’s Court in Copenhagen City Court at approximately 12.30pm.
The prosecution will request a closed-door hearing, and Copenhagen Police therefore has no further information in the case at this time.
