During an official visit to Slovenia, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to a just and lasting solution to the Western Sahara conflict. In his remarks, he also praised Slovenia’s principled stance on international justice, particularly its support for the rights of the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples to self-determination.
At a joint press conference in Ljubljana, President Tebboune warmly acknowledged Slovenia’s “courageous and just” foreign policy, citing its recent recognition of the State of Palestine as a landmark move in support of oppressed peoples. He expressed hope that other European nations would follow Slovenia’s example.
On Western Sahara, Tebboune noted that Slovenia aligns with international legality by advocating for a peaceful resolution that upholds the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination. While not always vocal in EU debates, Slovenia’s position reflects a principled approach consistent with UN resolutions and human rights.
A Shared Message of Sovereignty and Justice
President Tebboune also affirmed that Algeria, despite shifting geopolitical dynamics, remains steadfast and sovereign in its foreign policy. “Our country will not be affected by any future change,” he stated, underscoring Algeria’s commitment to principled diplomacy.
In their shared support for Western Sahara and Palestine, Algeria and Slovenia highlight the enduring importance of international law, justice, and the right of all peoples to determine their own destinies—core values that resonate strongly amid today’s global challenges.
