HE. Federica Moguerini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
I refer to your Excellency with the urgency dictated by the serious events that take place in the territories of Western Sahara, illegally occupied by Morocco.
As is well known, the occupation forces unleashed an unprecedented wave of repression against the Sahrawi civilian population, in El Aaiún, when they celebrated with joy, and peacefully, the victory of the Algerian team in the Africa Cup of Nations.
This brutal repression had as a macabre result the violent death of the young Sabah Azman, 23 years old, deliberately hit by a vehicle of the so-called auxiliary forces. Abandoned on the ground, without receiving the minimum aid, she took her last breath. Many protesters suffered injuries of varying severity, others were beaten, and harassment and persecution lasted until the early hours of July 20.
The Frente POLISARIO entered with the registry of the Court of Justice of the European Union an action for annulment against the decision of 28th January 2019, whereby the European Union concluded an association agreement with Morocco, deciding that this agreement would apply also to the territory of Western Sahara.
In its judgment of 21st December 2016, the CJEU ruled that Morocco and Western Sahara were two distinct and separate territories, and that there could be economic activity on the territory only with the consent of the people of Western Sahara. These principles were confirmed by two judgments of 2018, concerning fishing and airspace.
The POLISARIO Front had immediately demonstrated to negotiate the agreements necessary for the development of the territory, in compliance with the decisions of the CJEU. European leaders have made another choice. As the Court said that there could be no “de facto application”, they imagined a “law enforcement” mechanism, inventing an explicit process of extending the EU agreement / MOROCCO on the territory of Western Sahara. This is a serious violation of the principle of sovereignty. Read more
Press release of the Frente POLISARIO:
[GENEVA, 22 MARCH 2019] Today the Frente POLISARIO concluded the second UN-led roundtable on Western Sahara. We participated in these talks constructively and without pre-conditions with an aim towards fulfilling our people’s inalienable right to self-determination and Independence.
It is clear that the only practicable, realistic and enduring solution is one that grants our people their right to freely and democratically decide their own fate, without preconditions. Only with the approval of the Sahrawi people can a solution be enduring and foster a genuine peace that paves the way for a free, prosperous, and democratic Western Sahara, which will contribute to regional peace, stability, security and Integration.
The Frente POLISARIO remains committed to a peaceful, genuine solution, and we welcome the steadfast efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy and urge the international community to fully support him. But we are under no Illusions about the obstacles to peace. Western Sahara remains under Morocco’s illegal, repressive occupation, which systematically violates the human rights of the Sahrawi people. This basic reality cannot be ignored; self-determination is incompatible with occupation. Read more
EW YORK, January 30, 2019 (SPS) -. Frente POLISARIO reiterated on Tuesday, in a statement after the appearance of Köhler before the Security Council to report on the situation in Western Sahara, its support for the UN political process and the defense of the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.
For the Frente POLISARIO, the first round of peace talks on Western Sahara demonstrated that the status quo is not sustainable and is an obstacle to peace. In this regard, it hopes that with the current efforts of the Personal Envoy and the effective support of the Security Council, a just, peaceful and lasting solution will be found that will lead to a real process of self-determination in Western Sahara.
In that context, the representative of the POLISARIO before the United Nations, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, underlined that the “Security Council must take advantage of the current momentum by taking concrete measures to guarantee the inalienable right of our people to self-determination, as they demand the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly. ” Read more

Mission of the European Parliament: the institutions of Moroccan have no right to express themselves instead of the people of Western Sahara
On 3 September, and for two days, a European Parliament mission will visit the occupied territory of Western Sahara to gain a better understanding of the situation. The Frente POLISARIO welcomes this effort, which shows the desire to gather as much information as possible before taking decisions. However, it intends to solemnly recall three points that are essential.
The Kingdom of Morocco, which is an occupying military power within the meaning of the Fourth Geneva Convention, has no capacity to exercise any act of sovereignty over the territory. The authorizations that it believes he can give, especially for access to the territory, are worthless under international and European law. Similarly, interlocutors under Moroccan law that will meet the mission can not, by hypothesis, give the slightest opinion on behalf of the people of Western Sahara. Read more

After the announcement by Morocco of the rupture of its diplomatic relations with Iran, the Frente POLISARIO would like to clarify the following:
1. The Frente POLISARIO noting the decision of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, announced on May 1, 2018, to break diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which it accused of “arming, financing and forming the Front POLISARIO through the Lebanese Shi’ite movement Hezbollah “, I would like to categorically deny such allegations, for lack of any kind of foundation, and that it is nothing more than a pathetic reissue of previous unfounded slander, in which the Kingdom of Morocco tried to take advantage of the regional and international conjuncture in favor of its expansionist agenda.
2. The Kingdom of Morocco aims to adopt this measure, which denotes a banal political opportunism, strengthen its position within the new regional and international variables, as a trick to bypass the process of negotiations with the Saharawi party that was approved by the Security Council in its Resolution 2414 adopted last February 27; what puts Morocco in the difficult position of assuming its responsibilities within six months to collaborate in completing the process of decolonization of Western Sahara in accordance with the principles of international legality and the UN Charter.
3. The Frente POLISARIO also categorically denies the existence of military instructors or the military presence of any foreign power together with the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, the armed wing of the POLISARIO Front, which waged the war of national liberation with courage and heroism using exclusively of Sahrawi elements and staff.

NEW YORK, 21 November 2017 – Ahead of the UN Security Council’s 22 November meeting on Western Sahara, the Frente POLISARIO reiterates its support to the mission of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Horst Köhler, and urges Council members to provide necessary contributions to the relaunch of the UN peace process.
The Frente POLISARIO expects the Security Council to uphold its responsibility towards the people of Western Sahara and to ensure full respect to their inalienable right to self-determination and independence. The Council has the duty to guarantee that its own resolutions are respected and fully implemented. In this regard, UNSC Resolution 2351(2017) has requested the Personal Envoy to provide an update on progress towards a lasting and just solution to the conflict of Western Sahara, as a question of decolonization, within six months of his appointment. This update – to be held next February – should comprise a concrete framework for the path forward that would culminate in urgent time-bound, face-to-face negotiations between the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco.
