PUSL .- Russia who has the presidency of the Security Council during the month of October anounced in the working programm three meetings on the Western Sahara issue this month.
Inmidst an intense attack against Saharawi human rights defenders, journalists and civil population in the occupied territories of Western Sahara by the moroccan authorities and a blockage by Saharawi civilians of the ilegal breach made by Morocco in El Guerguerat the CS will have much to analyze.
The mandate of MINURSO ends this month and according to the testemonies of the Saharawi population on the ground on both sides of the separation wall, if this peace keeping mission with the mandate to realize the self-determination referendum does not fullfill its purpose it is useless and adds to the suffering of the Saharawi.
The meetings on Western Sahara will take place on October 12, 14 and 28. Minurso’s mandate expires on October 31.
The Moroccan Ambassador to Moscow met yesterday with Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, russian Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries.
According to the Moroccan press the talks between the two diplomats during this meeting focused on the Western Sahara issue. Last September 11, Moroccan foreign minister Nasser called the russians on the same issue.
