Security Council approved resolution on Western Sahara

PUSL.- This afternoon the Security Council approved the draft resolution on Western Sahara with 13 votes in favour and two abstentions, Russian Federation and South Africa.

The mandate of MINURSO was extended for one year.

The US is the penholder on Western Sahara.

Resolutions are initially discussed among the “Group of Friends”, comprising France, Russia, the UK, and the US, joined by Spain, the colonial power de jure. The “Group of Friends” except Russia have all interests and enterprises in occupied Western Sahara, which withdraws any imparciality.
