Saharawi activists Bouhalla and Botasufra sentenced to 12 months and 8 months respectively

PUSL.- Today, 8th of March 2021 in the court of El Aaiun the saharawi activists Ghali Bouhalla and Nafaa Botasufra were condemned to 12 months and 8 months of imprisonment.

During the trial both activists denounced that they had been tortured. The judge did not request any investigation into to the torture allegations.

The sentence was based upon drug possession and distribution charges that were based on the police records. Ghali Bouhalla and Nafaa Botasufra denied in their first hearing to have signed the statements.

The trial of the two Saharawi activists had been postponed three times.

The two Saharawi were detained last February 11th, the first hearing was on Sunday February 14th . The trial was postponed to February 22, 2021, at the request of Maître Khaled because he did not have access to Mr. Bouhalla’s file or the opportunity to interview his client.

On the 22nd of February the trial was postponed to the 1st of March, according to the court due to technical problems

The trial was scheduled to held via internet to the 1st of March but did not take place due to technical problems according to the judge and rescheduled to the 8th of March 2021.
