Abdullah Arabi: “Spain has become hostage in the hands of Morocco”

elplural.com.- The representative in Spain of the Polisario Front, Abdullah Arabi, assured that Spain has become hostage in the hands of Morocco, “of whom it says” that, it “move the positions of the different governments at will “.

In an interview with the newspaper Ara published this Friday, he regretted that with the change in position of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, on Western Sahara, “the traditional Madrid position of concentrating everything on United Nations resolutions has been broken”. He criticized that in this way “it unilaterally bets on the proposal of one of the parties, which is the aggressor and the occupier”.

Arabi criticized the letter sent by Sánchez to King Mohamed VI. According to Rabat, in that letter he conveys that the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, which leaves this territory under Moroccan sovereignty although with some ceded powers, constitutes the most serious and realistic basis for reaching a solution to this conflict.

Morocco’s “blackmail”

However, the representative of the Polisario Front sees a “Moroccan blackmail strategy”, conditioned by the fight against terrorism and economic agreements that affect the natural resources of Western Sahara. He considers that neither Sánchez nor the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, are capable of justifying his position.

For him, Spain was never a country “willing to play a role of mediation to reach an agreement based on international law, because Morocco will never allow it”, and he defended the right of the Saharawi people to decide their future through a referendum . “Morocco is the occupying power and Spain the administrator”, he concluded, and assured that the country is acting against its responsibilities.

Asked about possible autonomy within Morocco, he replied: “What democracy exists in Morocco? Autonomy in Spain or Germany cannot be compared to a feudal country that many of its young people want to leave. This is disrespecting the struggle and resistance of the Saharawi people”.

On the other hand, Arabi highlighted the “solidarity” of the Spanish population with the Saharawis and insisted that the Front will seek any solution to the conflict to achieve the reunion of families that have been separated for 46 years.
