APS.dz – The President of the Saharawi Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, called for an end to “the policy of double standards, of discrimination and unjust and shameful differentiation in the treatment of problems and conflicts at the international level”.
In a letter addressed to the leaders and militants of the Turkish Patriotic Party on the occasion of its 11th General Assembly which ends on Monday, Brahim Ghali also stated that “the Polisario Front only demands the application of international legitimacy on clear and solid bases, far from the hegemony and dictates imposed by the imperialist powers”, in reference to the Saharawi question.
In this sense, he recalled that the status of Western Sahara is clearly mentioned in successive UN resolutions.
The Saharawi question is a question of decolonisation, the solution of which necessarily involves the organisation of a referendum which would allow the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, like all colonised peoples and countries, the Polisario Front’s highest authority underlined.
“The Saharawi people must exercise their right to self-determination”, the same source insisted.
From the point of view of international law, Western Sahara remains a non-self-governing territory where Morocco exercises its power as an occupying power.
Inscribed since 1963 on the list of Non-Self-Governing Territories, and thus eligible for the application of UN General Assembly Resolution 1514 on the granting of independence to colonised countries and peoples, Western Sahara is the last colony in Africa, occupied since 1975 by Morocco.
