Wilaya de Dakhla, Jan. 18, 2023 (SPS) – Participants in the 16th Congress of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia Al-Hamra and Rio de Oro (POLISARIO) have approved the constitution of the Electoral Commission, which will oversee the elections of the new Secretary General of the POLISARIO Front and the members of the National Secretariat, for a period of three years.
The Electoral Commission is composed of 117 members from different sectors of society and will meet immediately after its constitution to approve its Rules of Procedure and Work Programme, in accordance with the recently approved Rules of Procedure of the POLISARIO Front, which will be submitted to a vote by the congressmen in today’s Wednesday session.
The XVI Congress of the POLISARIO Front approves new amendments to the Rules of Procedure
The 16th Congress of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia Al-Hamra and Rio de Oro (POLISARIO) has approved with absolute majority the new Internal Regulations of the POLISARIO Front, following the approval of the proposed amendments just submitted to vote.
The new Rules of Procedure were subject to several amendments, which included the mandatory renewal of at least six (6) members of the National Secretariat in each cycle, in addition to its reduction from twenty-nine to twenty-seven members and the exclusion of the General Secretaries of the Popular Organisations.
Furthermore, the sessions of the VXI Congress will continue today with the vote on the amendments to the Constitution and the adoption of the National Action Programme.
