bng.gal.- The MEP of the Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG), Ana Miranda, has been appointed vice-president of the European Parliament’s Intergroup in Support of Western Sahara, representing the Greens-EFA group, of which the BNG is a member. The assumption of this role in the European Parliament is a further step in the close relations between the BNG and Western Sahara, materialised in various parliamentary initiatives and meetings in the European Parliament with their legitimate representatives.
“We want to show all our support to the Saharawi people, develop new initiatives and denounce the change of position of the Spanish government”, stresses Ana Miranda, who throughout the meeting thanked the other members of the Intergroup – formed by MEPs from four political groups in the European Parliament – so that, as an MEP of the BNG, she could take on this new role.
Miranda said that the BNG will continue to promote initiatives to support the demands of the Saharawi people and in this regard announced its participation, on 2 December, in the European Conference of Solidarity and Support for the Saharawi People (EUCOCO), to be held in Berlin. EUCOCOCO is the most important annual meeting of the European movement of solidarity with the Saharawi people in which delegations from all over the world participate.
In addition, a Conference of Jurists will be held in February and the Intergroup awaits the European ruling, which, as expected, will be in favour of the Polisario Front. On the other hand, the Intergroup will also continue to denounce the illegalities committed by Morocco. “We will continue to denounce the illegal occupation of the Sahara by Morocco for more than 45 years, which unfortunately has the consent of the Spanish state, as well as the plundering of its natural resources”, he stressed.
